gold / gold has always mixed the brutal world of value creation and production with the metaphorical sphere of hieratic representation and transcendence: with gold you cover the roofs of this world, in which the sky is supposed to be reflected and as a human being you rise above the perils of the ephemeral.
cup / a discarded disposable paper cup is an object that can ignite the imagination: you look at the forests that provide the raw materials, the retail chains and supply routes, the huge manufacturing complexes that produce billions and billions of these cups and again international trade and global supply chains. But we also introduce ourselves to the person who bought and drank a hot drink in this very place: a panorama of demands and impertinence.
edition / it may be possible to relate the act of artistic tenderness with which Knut Eckstein collected the cups of this edition and covered them with gold to the complex of recycling (one would have to ask him about that), but I tend more to the associative space of alchemy: that rational-magical scientific travesty that focused on the idea of ​​transformation. So the idea that one can be transmutated into the other - if one only finds the key, the procedure that releases the potency of the possible in an ostensible given reality.
